The most important aspect of opening someone through a social media or dating website is to stand out from the rest of the crowd.
It doesn’t matter that much how funny the things you open with are. What matters is that you’re opening with something that isn’t just Hi. Most people leave obvious clues to what interests them scattered on their profile. Try and find an interesting way to relate one of your own interests to one of theirs. And at the same time showing her that you read her profile and are empathizing with something she likes.

“Wow that’s amazing how much weight you lost. Can you tell me how you did it? Or am I going to assume that you had a very unhealthy bulemic disorder combined with a propensity towards eating Indian Street Food.”

Again most of these openers aren’t that funny. A lot of them are cheesy and you might feel uncomfortable coming off this silly. Feel free to open with something more subdued such as
“I noticed you look really different in each of your pictures I wonder if you look completely different in person”
“Am I going to have to get your dog’s approval before we can go out?”
“Love that picture of you in Paris did you get to climb to the top of the Eiffel Tower”?
“So you went skydiving? Did you make it back in one piece”?
Again these are openers that take information gathered from the profile and shows you’re catering your hello specifically to her.
